Abstract

Abstract

Mental health can affect a person's physical health, quality of life and productivity. However, the increase in mental health issues among the community in Malaysia, especially among university students today is at a worrying level. In addition, stressors and lifestyle have changed people's normal lives and have the potential to affect mental health, especially among the people in this country. This study aims to look at the factors that drive the study and discussion of mental health issues in Malaysia in the context of students between two countries, namely Malaysia and Indonesia. The selected HEIs are Selangor Islamic University and Sutaatmadja Jakarta Indonesia School of Economics. This is to look at the comparison of health levels and the driving factors that cause this issue. The results of the study found that both institutions are aware of the importance of knowledge about mental health in terms of improving academic performance but at the same time the factor that drives them is academic stress itself. Having knowledge about the mental health of each individual is important to ensure that daily productivity is not disrupted. This study is expected to help UIS and STIESA counseling bodies to plan appropriate actions to help students who need counseling guidance.
